City of Ballinger Recycling Center Hours

The City of Ballinger's Recycling Center, located at South 7th Street and Sealy Avenue, is open from 8:00 AM to noon on Monday.  Tuesday through Friday, the recycling center will be open from 8:00 AM to noon and from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.  Saturday, the recycling center will be open from 8:00 AM to noon. 



Ballinger Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Taco Salad Luncheon

The Ballinger Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will host the annual Taco Salad luncheon on Tuesday (April 21) from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, located at 400 North 8th Street in Ballinger.  Plates will be served dine in or take out, with delivery available.  Plates are $8.00 each.  To arrange delivery, call on the day of the meal to 365-1692 or 977-1778. 



Runnels County Farm Bureau Scholarship Apps Available

Applications for the Runnels County Farm Bureau Scholarship are available at the county's office in Ballinger.  Scholarship applications are also available at the high school counselor's offices in Ballinger, Winters, and Miles High Schools.  A total of three $1000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors whose families are members of the Runnels County Farm Bureau.  Deadline for the submission of completed applications is Friday (May 8).



Ballinger Bridge Construction Underway

Work is underway and will continue for several months on a 14.6 million dollar project to widen and improve bridges on main thoroughfares in Ballinger.  J.H. Strain and Sons, Inc. will perform the work to widen the existing bridges and replace the existing bridge decks over Elm Creek, The Colorado River, and the South Orient Railroad and FM 382.

The existing bridges were built between 1958 and 1963.  According to Tex-Dot, the bridges need to be wider to accomodate  the increased truck traffic through Ballinger.  The Elm Creek and Railroad bridges  will be widened 12 feet and the Colorado River Bridge will be widened one and one half feet. 

Motorists are urged to reduce speeds and use extra caution as work continues on the affected structures. 



FCA Classic Games Feature Agriplex Athletes

Several Agriplex area athletes will participate in the Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes games this summer.  Outstanding high school seniors are selected from a nomination process to participate in football, basketball, volleyball, softball, and baseball games to be held across the Big Country June 11th through June 13th.  All Agriplex area athletes that participate will be a part of the south teams in their respective games.

The games get underway with the girls and boys all-star basketball games at the Brownwood Coliseum on Thursday, June 11th. 

Agriplex area athletes participating in the girls basketball game are Chelsea Toliver from Ballinger and Bailey Halfmann from Miles.  Ballinger's Jessica Good will be a member of the cheering squad in Brownwood. 

The softball and baseball games will be played on Friday, June 12th in San Angelo.  Miles High School will be represented by Madison Wilson in the softball game.  Ballinger's Ben Holden will play in the baseball game. 

The girls volleyball game will be played on Saturday, June 13th at Wylie High School.  Bronte's Stacia Emfinger will participate in the game on the south team.

The 16th annual Myrle Greathouse All-Star Football Classic game will be played at Abilene's Shotwell Stadium on Saturday, June 13th.  Several Agriplex area athletes will be playing on the south team.  Bronte High School will be represented by Lance Burns, Justin Carson will represent Ballinger High School, Jimmy John Ripley will play in the game representing Winters High School, and Colton Wilson will represent Miles High School.
